through a national benchmark

National Out of Hours Benchmark - Progress
Following the release of the Care Quality Commission’s interim report on their enquiry into out of hours care, the Primary care Foundation is committed to working with its user group to extend the benchmark to include all areas covered by their report. The current out of hours benchmark covers a wide range of performance indicators with data drawn from provider systems to ensure detailed comparison. The benchmark already addresses many of the areas highlighted by the Care Quality Commission. However, in the light of this latest report, we will be developing the benchmark to cover additional areas such as:
For the first time, the benchmark will include detailed feedback from recent service users. Our partners, CFEP UK Surveys, have contacted all PCTs and providers about the patient experience questionnaire.

- the number of unfilled shifts
- the proportion of shifts covered by non-local doctors
- the induction and training those doctors receive
- management of medicines
