It was commissioned by NHS England, developed in partnership with NHS Alliance and the Forward was supported by a wide range of leaders from organisations representing primary care, including BMA, RCGP and NHS Clinical Commissioners (click here).
It presents research with practices highlighting the pressure they are currently under and the steps that should be taken nationally and locally to reduce the burden on general practice.
The joint press release is available here.
The full report can be downloaded here.
A full web based resource will be available very soon here via a link from this website, allowing you to explore all results, recommendations and good practice within the report.
Our response to Jeremy Hunt’s announcement on reducing workload in general practice
The Primary Care Foundation & NHS Alliance welcome the actions identified by the Secretary of State in today’s announcement, but caution that increased support and resource is needed to make these changes a reality on the ground. Read the full statement here.
We are now supporting over 1,500 practices across the UK to manage access and urgent care
Our support for general practices looking to improve access for patients and streamline the management of urgent care continues to expand. Based on a web based tool, developed out of our work commissioned by the Department of Health, we collect practice data for one week and prepare a report for each practice looking at how you compare to others and explore what this means for making practical changes in the way you work. We have now worked with over 1,500 practices across the UK. If you want to know more about how we might work with you please contact Rick Stern on

A new benchmarking service – from out of hours to a broader urgent care benchmark
We are currently reviewing our benchmarking service, expanding our out of hours benchmark into a broader urgent care benchmark creating a broader set of indicators to give a more comprehensive picture to local commissioners and providers. Following a workshop with a wide range of stakeholders at the Kings Fund in May we will be looking to build the new benchmark soon. If you would like to be part of an early phase in establishing the new urgent care benchmark, please contact Henry Clay on
